Colo Road DA for Child Care Centre

The Colo Vale Community Association was recently informed that a DA has been lodged for a proposed child Care Centre at 71-73 Colo Road, Colo Vale.

The immediate neighbours to the property involved were notified with only one week for them to lodge any objections to the proposal.  A request to extend the time for submissions to enable residents to research their objections or otherwise was refused.  The residents’ concerns were brought to the attention of the Association  and following its monthly meeting, the Committee of the Association only had a couple of days to lodge its comments in relation to serious concerns about road safety in Colo Road and adjoining streets, the number of cars driving through Colo Vale daily, and the problems associated with bush fires.

The nature of the Centre is that drop off and pick up times for children are staggered Colo Roadfrom 7.00am to 6.00pm.  The Centre will cater for a total of up to 96 children, being 66 long day care and 30 after school care.

Residents are of the opinion that if this DA is approved the impact will be felt throughout the Village with the large number of children being ferried in and out of Colo Road, down side streets, and along the two main access roads to the Village.

There is also the serious concern regarding evacuating this many children in the event of a bush fire break out on this fire prone side of the Village.

If the proposed development causes you concern, you may wish to discuss with your neighbours, your Council representative, or any of the relevant authorities.
